“Hi, Mrs. Smith!” says Saahithi, jumping into my room this morning. “Do you notice anything different about me?”
“Well,” I say, “your hair is in a beautiful pony tail…”
“No, I got new shoes! My bedtime is normally 7:30, but I went to bed at 8:00 last night because we went to the Premium Outlet Mall, and I got new Nikes!”
“Wow! They are purple and they have green accents,” I say. “Now those are gorgeous!”
“I know, right?!” she replied, happily smiling and turning her foot from side to side for me to admire every angle.
The bell rings, and I have to send her onward to her fourth grade class, but the joy of a nine year old thrills my heart. Oh, that we wouldn’t lose it.
Yes we should!!!

Oh this reminds me of me asking my teenage what a text acronym she sent me meant, her message just read “ikr”, it turns out (and perhaps you already know this) it means “I know right”. I use it back to her now often, and usually get an “lol” in return. 🙂

See, life is good, right? Simple joys are everywhere you look – you just might have to look harder sometimes. And, by the way, I have purple athletic shoes that I wear everywhere. Get lots of comments and so life is good for those who wear purple shoes. Ha! Thanks for sharing this with us!!

I get excited about new shoes too.
It is so easy these days to fall into a rut. Get up. go to work, come home, do laundry, cook, do errands, sleep. Bah!! Where is the fun?

Beautiful! I’m 63 and I still feel the same way about a new pair of shoes. Only thing is, I’d be excited if I got to go to bed a half an hour before my bedtime. 😉

Hello Miss,
I too can relate to this post. Leaving a career after a life-time can seem over-whelming. I eventually got used to it, and actually found myself glad after a time. that I didn’t have to do it any longer. I love my new job as a librarian. It’s calmer, less confrontational, and less life-threatening to say the least. I adore your site here. I’m new to blogging if you cannot tell, and yours is one of the first I discovered. might I add you to my blog-list?
Respectfully,
