Henry Green Read-Along with Mookseandgripes, Proustitute, and a Few Others

There has been a read-along of Henry Green before, when Stu hosted Henry Green Week in 2011, and there has been a read-along of an nyrb classic before, when Dorian and Scott hosted Hill. So I am super excited to announce another read-along beginning this November of Henry Green’s newly published books by nyrb press. It is hosted by The Mookse and the Gripes and Proustitute over at Goodreads.

The Year of Reading Henry Green, as the read-along is called, consists of one Henry Green book a month beginning in November. (The first two of his book will be published by nyrb press on October 18; you can see them pictured above.) So, the schedule is as follows:

November: Back

December: Loving

January: Caught

February: Blindness

March: Living

April: Party Going

There are three more of Green’s books to go, and the months to read those are as yet to be determined. But, this is surely enough to pique your interest and get you started should you decide to join the read-along whose members include so far:

Doesn’t it sound like fun?

    • I had to double check my post for the date, and I can hardly believe myself that it was four years ago! That was my first introduction to Henry Green, and I haven’t read any of him since, so it’s wonderful to embark on this year long reading adventure. Perhaps you could dip your toes into one or two of the titles? 😉

Or, how do you feel about the read along of A True Love by Minae Mizumura, highly touted Japanese love story said to resemble Wuthering Heights. Who doesn’t love a dysfunctional love story in the middle of December?

    • I heard Vintage published a set of several together, is that the one you ordered? It sounds like w good collection whom ever may have published it, and I’m so glad you’re going to try reading along with us!

  1. Proustitute made me laugh! At some point, I will join a read-a-long. But first, I must catch up in my everyday reading. I hope you enjoy this, Bellezza. I will stay tuned for your discussions. 🙂

  2. Oh, I’ve been intrigued by Green ever since I read bookssnob’s review a couple of years ago. I’m particularly attracted to “Loving.”

I probably won’t join the read-along, but I’d be very interested in reading everyone’s reviews. And I might finally purchase “Loving” after years of dithering.

    • We’re going to have a great time! I really enjoyed the only book of Green’s I’ve read, and I look forward to reading more, especially with everyone’s company. Glad you’re joining in.
